BENTON SCHOOL COMPLEX SIDEWALKS

BENTON SR. HIGH SCHOOL, JR. HIGH SCHOOL, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

BENTON, ARKANSAS

SPRING 1997

(Because of the lack of pedestrian facilities, additional buses are required for the transportation of students to the school complex, creating an obstruction to other vehicles.)

Michael Schrader helped the City of Benton obtain federal funds through the regional planning organization for the construction of sidewalks around the perimeter of the Benton School Complex, consisting of an elementary, junior high, and senior high school.

Tasks performed

·         Provided coordination between the City of Benton, the Benton School District, and other governmental entities

·         Evaluated the operational logistics of the School Complex with respect to buses, pedestrians, and private vehicles

·         Created the concept for the perimeter sidewalk system

·         Determined the construction cost for the sidewalk system

·         Represented the City of Benton and presented the project before the MPO Board of Directors to obtain federal financial assistance

(Due to lack of sidewalks, students are forced to walk in the street, risking injury and impeding traffic flow.)
