My Casino Adventure: There’s Evil In Our Midst

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I did something this morning that I had never done before– I went into a casino.  No, I wasn’t there to gamble; I was there to attend a breakfast meeting at the casino’s restaurant.  Let me say that I was taken aback when I walked in at 8 AM and saw people gambling.  That’s right, gambling at 8 AM?  Why?

For some silly reason, I thought that casinos had hours of operation, like 3 PM to 3 AM or something like that.  I never dreamed that a casino would be open at eight in the morning.  It made me very, very sad to see people gambling at that time of day.  What a waste of time and money.  I guess it really is an addiction, isn’t it?  I think what is so evil about it is that the casinos (in this case, an Indian one) prey upon people’s weaknesses by letting them gamble 24/7.  Wouldn’t the casinos make enough if they were open 3 PM to 3 AM?  You bet they would.  If the casinos had a shred of a conscience they would restrict gambling to those hours only.  But no — we must milk people for every penny that they have.  We must maximize our profit.  It’s not like they don’t steal enough from you with the ridiculous food prices.  No no no.  You are obligated to leave without a penny to your name.

I am not one who usually get preachy, but I must agree with the evangelicals on this one– casinos are an evil scourge on our country.
