Happy Sts. Cyril and Methodius Day!

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

The Catholic Church has not recognized Feb 14 as the feast of St Valentine since 1969.  Instead, Feb 14 is the Feast of Sts Cyril and Methodius, who were Greek brothers who converted the Slavs to Christianity.  (Cyril invented the Russian alphabet.)

The Franciscans have an interesting article about Valentine’s Day at:

Commissioner Schrader?

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

I, Michael Schrader, am announcing my candidacy for the position of County Commissioner, District 2, Nowata County, Oklahoma.  After numerous discussions with neighbors, including the retiring commissioner, I have decided that, after a 7 year hiatus from politics, I am seeking election to the Nowata County Commission.  As County Commissioner, I would put my years of governmental experience to good use, and would be an excellent shepherd of the public’s monies.  I will strive to encourage volunteerism and teamwork among my fellow Nowata Countians, and to bring pride back to county.  In addition, I will seek to foster an environment that is attractive for economic development, as it is only through good economic development that Nowata county can grow and prosper.
