Michael H. Schrader, P.E., has designed modifications to several dams and spillways.  For Lake Apache, Schrader converted a local road into an emergency spillway.
In order to obtain the necessary permits,
Schrader had to perform a HEC-1 and HEC-2 analysis of the watershed, reservoir, and spillway, and design the necessary modifications to the dam and spillway structures.
      At Seven Lakes Dam #1,
Schrader designed a trench drain system designed to help stabilize the back slope of the dam before construction proceeded on the crest and the spillway.
In addition to analyses of dams and spillways,
Schrader has also performed numerous analyses of watersheds.  Schrader performed an analysis of the watershed downstream of Biggers Dam in South Central Arkansas to determine the extent of possible flooding if the dam were to break.

Schrader has also performed analyses of the Bayou Two Prairie Watershed upstream of Old 67, Lonoke and Pulaski Counties, Arkansas; the various watersheds traversing Lucas, Texas; and the Valley Street Storm Drainage System Watershed, Cuero, Texas.

Lakes Ocie, Wanda Lee, and Ski, —Rocky Ridge, Missouri

Seven Lakes Dam #1, —Des Arc, Missouri

Mr. Schrader designed the necessary dam and spillway modifications to bring this dam into compliance with Missouri state law.  In addition, he oversaw Phase I of the construction of the modifications.

Apache Lake Dam, —Irondale, Missouri

Mr. Schrader designed the dam and spillway modifications necessary to bring this dam into compliance with Missouri state law.  Apache Lake was unique in that the spillway to be modified was also a city street.  Mr. Schrader oversaw the construction of the modifications, and obtained the necessary permits on behalf of the City of Irondale from the State after the completion of the improvements.
Model Stormwater Management Ordinance — 2000.

Mr. Schrader drafted a model stormwater management ordinance.

Frontier Lake Dam, —Patterson, Missouri

Mr. Schrader designed the dam and spillway modifications necessary to bring this dam into compliance with Missouri state law.

Lake Laguna Palma—, Jefferson County, Missouri

Mr. Schrader designed the dam and spillway modifications necessary to bring this dam into compliance with Missouri state law.

Biggers Lake—, Camden, Arkansas

Mr. Schrader performed the downstream water surface profile for a dam failure scenario.
Storm Drainage and Hydraulics

This area of work includes storm drainage and hydraulic studies including determining of flows, design of conveyance systems, and cost estimates for constructing such.  The hydrologic and hydraulic studies were conducted using a variety of modeling tools including HEC-1, HEC-2, SCS TR-55, rational method, and spreadsheets based on the Missouri Department of Transportation storm sewer design guidelines.  Locations include:
