Coinciding with his career as Traffic Engineer,  Traffic Engineering-focused Master's Degree program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Michael H. Schrader, P.E., has also acquired vast experience as a planner.  Schrader has performed numerous planning studies while in both the public sector, as a traffic engineer of Springfield, Illinois, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma; the staff engineer for Metroplan, the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Central Arkansas; the Public Works Director/City Engineer of Cabot, Arkansas; the Senior Transportation Planner of Dallas County, Texas; the Public Works Director/City Engineer/Planning & Zoning Director of Balch Springs, Texas,  and the private sector as a consultant.   Planning experience includes:

City of Vilonia Comprehensive Plan, Vilonia, Arkansas (1997)
Schrader served as an integral part of a team that created the first comprehensive plan for Vilonia, Arkansas.  Schrader's responsibilities included interacting with City officials, presentations, and the drafting of the plan, especially areas pertaining to traffic and drainage.
Northwest Lonoke Planning Study, Cabot, Arkansas (1997)
Schrader served as an integral part of a team that performed an in-depth planning analysis of northwest Lonoke County, Arkansas.  Schrader's responsibilities included interacting with task force members, conducting workshops, performing a form analysis of existing development patterns, traffic patterns, and transportation infrastructure, presentations, and the drafting of the study and recommendations.
City of Benton Comprehensive Plan Update, Benton, Arkansas (1997)
Schrader served as the facilitator of and technical adviser to a task force made up of elected officials, City staff, developers, builders, and citizens charged with the updating the City's comprehensive plan.
Model Stormwater Management Ordinance (2000)
Schrader drafted a Model Stormwater Management Ordinance, including provisions relating to ponds, detention, inlets, and surface and subsurface conveyance systems.  This ordinance, a "No Net Impact" ordinance, was passed by the City of Balch Springs, Texas, in April 2004 and is widely considered to be ahead of its time with respect to stormwater management.

Sachse Comprehensive Plan Update, Sachse, Texas  (2001)
Schrader served as an integral part of a team that updated  the comprehensive plan for Sachse, Texas, a semi-rural suburban community in the Northeastern corner of Dallas County.  Schrader's responsibilities included interacting with City officials, presentations, and the drafting of the plan, especially areas pertaining to traffic and engineering.
Prosper Comprehensive Plan, Prosper, Texas  (2002)
Schrader served as an integral part of a multifirm, multi-disciplinary  (planning, traffic engineering, history, architecture, economics, and landscape architecture) team that created a  comprehensive plan for Prosper, Texas, a rural community approximately 40 miles north of Dallas.  Schrader's responsibilities included interacting with City officials, presentations, and the drafting of the transportation elements of the plan, including form analysis, traffic data collection and interpretation, a historical analysis of transportation infrastructure development patterns and effects of these patterns on community development, and a recommended transportation system network, including form and functionality.
Planning & Zoning Director, City of Balch Springs, TX   (2004)
Schrader served as the Director of Planning & Zoning for the City of Balch Springs, Texas.  In this capacity, he reviewed all planning and zoning applications and served as the Secretary to the Planning & Zoning Commission.
Model Barricade Ordinance (2004)
Schrader wrote a Model Barricade Ordinance, including provisions relating to block parties, rallies, government-sponsored events, and construction related activities, and appropriate procedures, fees, and enforcement provisions.
